A breathing butterfly brooch

'Zhuangzi dreamed of butterflies at dawn'; we spent a whole year bringing the dreamlike butterfly shadow in that verse onto the shoulder. We overturned and rebuilt it repeatedly, all to give the wings a true sense of life. They had to be light enough, like wind brushing past the ear when in flight. They had to be translucent enough, like veins in the morning mist. The four leaf-like wings, with shifting layers of colour...
